Private Investor

A Private Investor is a client that is interested in this site to make himself, or herself more informed on investment and investment funds for personal reasons, but is neither a Journalist, Professional Investor nor IFA.

High Net Worth Individual

A High Net Worth Individual is a Private Investor who:

(i) during the financial year preceding the date of registration on this Site had an annual income of £100,000, or more; or who
(ii) held throughout the financial year immediately preceding registration on this Site, net assets (excluding primary residence, life insurance and pension) to the value of £250,000 or more.

By making this assertion a Private Investor is able to receive promotions of units in unregulated collective investment schemes, where such promotions are exempt from the restriction in section 238 of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000. This means that Holden & Partners, through Worldwise Investor, can make available to this Private Investor information on promotions which are not authorised or recognized for the purposes of the Act.

You should be aware however that in such cases a Private Investor may have no right to complain to the Financial Services Authority, or the Financial Ombudsman Scheme and may have no right to seek compensation from the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.

It is always recommended by Holden & Partners to seek advice from an IFA (authorised person) who specialises in advising on this kind of investment.

Please note therefore that a High Net Worth Individual is also a Private Client who is interested in this site to make himself, or herself more informed on investment and investment funds for personal reasons, but is neither a Professional Investor, nor IFA.

Professional Investor

A Professional Investor is a client who is either:

• an entity required to be authorised or regulated to operate in the financial markets
• a large undertaking meeting two of the following size requirements on a company basis:
- balance sheet total of 12.5 million euros
- net turnover of 12.5 million euros
- average number of employees of 250 during the year; a partnership or unincorporated association which has (or has had at any time during the previous two years) net assets of at least £5 million (or its equivalent in any other currency at the relevant time) and calculated in the case of a limited partnership without deducting loans owing to any of the partners; a trustee of a trust (other than an occupational pension scheme, SSAS, personal pension scheme or stakeholder pension scheme) which has (or has had at any time during the previous two years) assets of at least £10 million (or its equivalent in any other currency at the relevant time) calculated by aggregating the value of the cash and designated investments forming part of the trust¹s assets, but before deducting its liabilities; a trustee of an occupational pension scheme or SSAS, or a trustee or operator of a personal pension scheme or stakeholder pension scheme where the scheme has (or has had at any time during the previous two years):
- at least 50 members; and
- assets under management of at least £10 million (or its equivalent in any other currency at the relevant time); a local authority or public authority; a national or regional government, a public body that manages public debt, a central bank, an international or supranational institution (such as the World Bank, the IMF, the ECP, the EIB) or another similar international organisation; or, another institutional investor whose main activity is to invest in securities.

IFA

An IFA is an Independent Financial Adviser, or investment adviser who is regulated by the Financial Services Authority to provide advice to Private Clients on investment products. It is our intention to provide such a person with full access to information on the site on the understanding that the IFA makes suitable provision for training in investments such that they are and remain cognisant on the risks and returns connected to the investment themes and investment funds being discussed.

Fund Manager

A Fund Manager is the person responsible for implementing a fund’s investing strategy and managing its portfolio trading activities.

Journalist/Media

A Journalist is a client who is not interested in this site for personal investment reasons, but in order to inform him, or herself, about investments either in a professional, or an academic capacity as part of research into investment funds.

It is our intention to give such a Journalist full access to the information on this site, which may be outside the Journalist’s sphere of knowledge, or experience, on the understanding that a Journalist will take due care to inform himself, or herself, sufficiently to make sense of the material provided and if in doubt will seek advice from a Professional Investor, or IFA about the issue(/s) at hand.
