Press Release: Worldwise Investor launches 30th September 2011

Worldwise Investor launches its environmental and ethical investment fund information and news website.

Worldwise Investor will be the UK's first online resource dedicated to thematic, environmental and ethical investing. The site will provide investors, intermediaries and fund managers with a single point of reference for investment performance relative to stock markets, information, news, thought leadership and commentary.

Environmental and ethical funds are becoming increasingly sought after as investors begin to recognise the growing importance of sustainable industries. This increased awareness and interest, together with the growing list of investment funds in this area, is fuelling a need for a greater breadth and depth of information and more straightforward and transparent access to key facts and figures in one place, enabling investors to make better and more informed investment choices.

The website provides performance information for over 120 investment funds available to UK investors which are either categorised into the following themes: environmental, multi-thematic, water, clean energy, agriculture, forestry and carbon, or have ethical screens.

Worldwiseinvestor.com has been developed by Holden & Partners and has involved the partnership of a number of investment houses including Cheviot Asset Management, Pictet Asset Management, Henderson Global Investors, Schroders and Ecclesiastical Investment Management.

“The launch of worldwiseinvestor.com builds upon the expertise developed producing our Guides to Climate Change and Ethical Investing over the past 4 years” Mark Hoskin, Managing Partner at Holden & Partners says, “We want all investors and IFAs to be able to find information on thematic, environmental and ethical investment funds in a quick and easy way to enable them to make educated decisions about the future.”

Registered users of the site will get:
  • To search a full fund library that filters by geography, theme, asset class & ethical screen
  • News that makes a connection to funds and puts them in context
  • Email alerts about how favourite funds are performing
  • To view benchmarks that show how funds are performing against their peers
  • To bookmark favourite funds and themes
  • Get the latest expert opinion by subscribing to our blog

George Latham, Head of Sustainable and Responsible Investments at Henderson Global Investors says: “Population growth and the developing markets are putting growing pressures on our natural resources. The full implications of which have not been understood by many in the investment community. We hope www.worldwiseinvestor.com will help investors and advisers to invest with greater knowledge and understanding of these issues.”

Worldwise Investor is also the main sponsor of the Ecocide Mock Trial event taking place on 30th September 2011 at the Supreme Court. Worldwise Investor is sponsoring the event because “this trial publicises how far the international community may be prepared to go to tackle our environmental challenges. The financial crisis has seen the environment pushed into the background, but the underlying drivers are building and these will have material impacts on company strategy and profits in the future. Private Investors need to take note of events such as this,” says Mark Hoskin, Managing Partner of Holden & Partners. Mark Hoskin will be speaking about the launch of the site at this event.

There will be a separate launch event of Worldwise Investor on 12 October hosted by Henderson Global Investors.

Holden & Partners
Holden & Partners are fee based Chartered Financial Planners who advise clients with investable assets over £100,000. The firm is not ideologically driven, but believes that thematic investment funds are an important contributor to managing investment solutions.

Holden & Partners believe strongly in ensuring clients structure their investments to meet their needs and personal preferences, focusing particularly on income requirements now and in the future. In that context, tax and pension planning is a major consideration. The investment mix is subject to clients’ attitude to risk and typically includes alternative asset classes to equities and bonds. As an example this may include direct commercial property investment and private equity style investment, which often benefit from tax relief and focus on solutions to environmental challenges.

Holden & Partners are based in London with 7 advisers looking after over 500 clients with assets in excess of £200m. We are very keen to welcome new clients and also other advisers.

Worldwise Partner Quotes
“What I find exciting about this,” says Brigid Benson of The Gaeia Partnership, “are the regular news updates and email feeds from one source which put environmental and ethical investing on a par with other financial communications. This will help investors and advisers to factor these issues into their investment planning to a greater extent than they do today.”

“We are supporting Worldwiseinvestor.com because it helps put our funds into a market context, while giving investors and IFAs control over the information they receive and need, to do their job effectively.” Paul Gaston, Pictet Asset Management.

“We are excited at the prospect of having a better communication channel with investors and advisers and hope that this initiative will be supported by all Investment Funds in the thematic arena to make this a sustainable venture going forward.” - Claudia Quiroz, Fund Manager of the Cheviot Climate Assets fund at Cheviot Asset Management.
